My Thoughts Heading into the Election

It’s been 4years we last felt this tense about out political atmosphere. It’s been 4years candidates had to come out to sign the Peace Accord; and as pathetic as that sound (that in 2019, peaceful conduct of election is still hard to come by)
Have you read ‘One Woman’s Race’ by Professor Remi Sonaiya? The Presidential candidate of Kowa party in the 2015 election. She decried the immature politics we play in Nigeria.
Another 4years down the line and just like 4years ago, we are back to where we were. Taking our future in our hands, trusting our guts and putting a leader in office, with the hope that the masses benefit.
While some people want to TAKE IT BACK, some want to GET NIGERIA WORKING AGAIN, considering how high-flying the nation is(according to the ruling party), some wants to take us to the NEXT LEVEL.
But regardless, you have to understand that the future of this nation for the next four years and beyond will be decided today. And if nothing, the future of this nation, her children and the children’s children matters most.
So, before you GET NIGERIA WORKING AGAIN, ensure you have TAKEN IT BACK, if you want this nation in the NEXT LEVEL. Understand that the supremacy of the masses matters the most, concede defeat if you lose. Election is not war. Every aspirant have something unique to offer(in saner climes). The same should be obtainable in Nigeria. Regardless of whether you lose or not; let all hands be on deck, support the winner, play conscious opposition, but always put the nation first, and not your election or reelection.

As we go to the polls today; a winner must emerge and to strengthen our democracy, every loser must concede and congratulate the winner; that spirit of sportsmanship ensures calms among your supporters and electorates.

Most importantly, do not sell your vote, the #2000, #5000, #10,000 may relief you in the now; but 4-years is a very long time and the money collected in exchange for your vote certainly won’t last you that long.

Oh yes, there is poverty in the land. And according to Sega Awosanya;

“A government that weaponizes poverty is an unconscionable murderous Government without compassion and moral compass that will equally have no future. Mark my words.”

“So, in essence, the reason poverty is on the rise is simply so the political class can get the poor electorate to do their bidding; after all, they(the electorate) needs the money.” Read; THE WEAPONIZATION OF POVERTY

Shun every form of electoral malpractice, violence or any other action or inaction that could cause explosion within the polity. Shun vote buying/or selling. Do not steal ballot boxes or any electoral material. Shun hate campaign or inciting ones. Shun fake news.

And give or take; come Wednesday, the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would be known. But before then, the decision is made today.

God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
